Would you like your kids to grow up singing and making music?

Can we make the world a better place by getting people to sing together?

The research says yes, and in my life and my observations of the music around me, from child to child, I can see it happening.

Imagine a little kid walking into a room full of drums, shakers, chimes, scarves and streamers, rhythm sticks, maracas and more!

Once I take out my fiddle and start to play kids' eyes grow big and I have their attention!

What will your child learn and do

at Sing, Dance and Play class?

When I sit down with my guitar and start to sing, they listen for a while, then start a call-and-repeat song and gradually even the littlest kid will try to join in. I have a growing lending library of little books I have made of the songs that we sing so that during the week

parents and children can read and sing together.

In my Sing, Dance and Play classes, little ones make music in whatever way they want.

The idea is to give them music as something to love, to listen to, and to create.

I've been a Suzuki violin teacher for a dozen years, teaching little kids how to hold a bow and

move their fingers over the strings. But my love of community singing and folk music is so great that I want to pass it on to future generations.

And kids' folk songs are catchy, easy to sing and remember! To find out more, message me here or on Facebook or email me at lisafromjackson@yahoo.com.

Violin Lessons with the Suzuki Method

Parents have been choosing the Suzuki method of violin teaching and learning for decades. Concert stages around the world are now full of professional musicians who began by playing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star over and over and over, building their skills as they go, playing games, working hard and feeling that joy of improvement at something that is, honestly, quite difficult!

I have been playing the violin since I was 8, and teaching for almost 15 years. I adapt my teaching to each child and encourage parents to adopt the Suzuki philosophy of hard work, love, kindness and generosity of spirit. It's great for the kids, and for parents and, not coincidentally works best for learning music.

I also very happily teach adults! The method is the same although the approach can be very different.

Is your child fascinated with the violin? Are you harboring a long curiosity about it yourself? Let's talk about it!

All About Me

I love the violin; it's really like nothing else, a puzzling contraption that makes sounds from deep and soulful to bright and shining.  When students discover that they are able to do something they used to think was so hard, I love how they eagerly move on to the next song, the next skill.

I love finding games that help kids learn how to practice.

I love when they watch each other while they play, their little bows moving up and down together. I love to bring kids together through music.

I also love showing adults that they can acquire new, difficult and exciting music skills, too! And I love bringing them together with other adult beginners to experience ensemble work. What's really fun is showing adults that with a little training, they don't have that "tin ear" that they always thought they had.

I've been playing the violin since I was 8 years old, and spent most of my youth playing in ensembles and orchestras. I went to college on music scholarships.

I was also raised on folk music and Pete Seeger. Pete's driving force was to save the world by getting people to sing together. When I walk into a room of 7-year-olds all clamoring to sing the sea shanty Santiana, ("Heave Away, Santiana!") I feel like I've done something right.

What else? I operate 2 Airbnb vacation rentals which keeps me busy in summertime, while I continue teaching. My two children have graduated college and are adulting very well! Eli is 26, married to Jo and living here while they build their house. Francie is 22, guitarist and songwriter, just starting to pursue her dreams.

We lost their father in 2019, and his loss was (and is) devastating. We remember him in everything we do, as we move on.
